Wexford is the county town of County Wexford. The community is at the mouth of the River Slaney.
Wexford was named by the Vikings. The Norse translation of its name is "inlet by the sandbank."
Also known as Loch Garman.
Oliver Cromwell's troops captured Wexford in 1649, destroying the Selskar Abbey and killing 1,500 townspeople.
The community is known for its narrow streets.
